[Dean's instinct is to push Peter away. He certainly wants to, he doesn't have the patience or the energy or the anything to deal with anyone but himself. He wishes people would stop messaging him anyway, wishes ignoring them would do anything but bring a parade of people to his door.
But it's the note of earnestness, distantly familiar and as easy to crush as it is to encourage, that gives him pause even now.
