So, Tim and I were kinda trying to figure out some stuff about how this place actually works, but obviously he's not around anymore, so... Is there anyone who's been, I don't know, studying how we don't, you know, asphyxiate and die when we go out on deck, or how the rooms work or whatever?

I mean - not to get anyone's hopes up or whatever but - maybe there's a way to turn off whatever messed up the hallways and common rooms or something.

Thanks for letting me help out back during that whole thing. I know I'm not like, actually a doctor or anything, but if you ever want an extra set of hands, I could, you know, help.

I've been told I'm pretty good at putting stuff back together.

[But he says it kind of distractedly, because he's already looking around, running his hands along the walls and trying to find something, anything that can be pried off or pulled open.]

[Alex notes this, watching Peter. This is not cars or sinks, he cannot do this thing.]

What should I be looking for?

[He doesn't stop looking, but does take a step back for a moment, scanning the walls and trying to find a sign of something.]

Any grooves, screws, secret panels, I don't know. There's got to be something, unless the controls all in the engine room.

[He steps back and scans the walls with Peter, squinting and feeling kind of stupid.]

Yeah, I got nothing.

[Peter lets out a slow breath, not really liking the way it's literally misting in front of him and finally glances over at Alex briefly.]

What should we do?

[Huffing irritably, not at Peter but at the entire situation, he glares at the smooth walls like they've personally insulted him. Which they basically have. He wants to be able to actually do something about this.]

[He turns and looks at the cells again, then back at the walls.]

Cold's easier than hot. We can always bring more blankets. I don't know what to do when the temperature ramps up in here again, though. Long-term . . . talk to whoever's in the engine room?

Toshiko Sato. [It's still half distracted, but he finally looks away for good and turns to Alex, wrapping his arms around himself again.]

There might be some blankets in the supply closet.

Yeah. [He goes to check and gestures for Peter to follow him. When he's close enough, Alex lowers his voice.]

Would you be willing to help transport them, if it comes to that? To somewhere else?

[Peter follows and nods immediately, expression serious, full of conviction.]

Yeah. Yeah, definitely. Where should they go?

Empty room. Guards at the door.

Sounds good. [And you are being looked at a little critically for a moment.] Are you doing okay?

I'm fine. Everybody needs to stop asking me that.

Sorry. You just, you know- [Scrambling for an explanation, plus a shrug.] Seem stressed out. Which makes sense, I mean, this is really messed up.

It's very messed up.

[He's not looking at Peter right now, just kind of. Staring at the wall.]

[And Peter is just staring at him. And frowning.]

Dude, seriously, I know we're not like, close or whatever, [So maybe this is Totally Normal (TM) Alex Summers behavior, for all he knows.] but maybe you should take a nap?

[Oh, Peter. This is about as close as Alex gets to anybody who's not named Charles Xavier.]

You sound like a mom right now. [But he's not mad, just. Yeah, he sounds tired.]

[It's been forever since he's had a friend his own age who's not Gwen okay. B(

And you're getting a sort of wry smile.] Sorry.

[Ugh. Damnit, Peter. Alex is an asshole about 40% of the time, but he knows Peter worries and he doesn't actually want him to.]

[He sighs and shrugs tightly.]

I don't like enclosed spaces. [Pause. Pause.] Or cells.

[He wonders why cells specifically, but he's not socially confused enough to actually just ask about that.]

So, this whole thing must be pretty rough for you. [Like. The Barge in general. Jesus, Alex. :|]

[He shrugs. Stoically. Single manly tear etc etc (only not really) (yet).]

I figure, better for me to do it than somebody who has no idea what it's like.

[Man no don't cry, Peter has no idea what the fuck to do with tears. :|]

I guess. [Not that he's ever had any amount of experience doing this kind of thing before, but. That does make sense. Still seems pretty rough, though.

(It's not about choice, it's about responsibility, and all that.)] You wanna find some stuff to help keep people comfortable until this stops?

[And, you know. Get out of Zero for some moderately fresh air.]

[Rough, sure, but it feels right. And that feeling is all he has to go on sometimes.]

Yeah, that's probably a good idea.

[What he gives Peter is not exactly a smile, but it's. Well. Enough of a twitch of his lips that it's reasonably close. It's supposed to be thank you, anyway.]

[Peter gives him a small smile in return and starts heading out of Zero, eager to get the hell out of the cold, and definitely not envying anyone with the misfortune of being sent down there.

Definitely making a mental note that if Bond did anything stupid in the next couple weeks to find some other way of telling him hey, cut that shit out.]
