So, Tim and I were kinda trying to figure out some stuff about how this place actually works, but obviously he's not around anymore, so... Is there anyone who's been, I don't know, studying how we don't, you know, asphyxiate and die when we go out on deck, or how the rooms work or whatever?

I mean - not to get anyone's hopes up or whatever but - maybe there's a way to turn off whatever messed up the hallways and common rooms or something.

You've been kinda quiet. [Is this the good kind of quiet, or are you brooding/getting up to some other horrible mischief. :|]

I know the what, but not the why. Lights are flickering, temperature's weird. But I'd rather not do anything about it until I've seen it myself.

[Peter nods quickly, already thinking about what he's going to need to fix any of it, assuming they can just pull back a wall panel and get down to business. Not that it's probably going to be that simple, but.]

Yeah. Yeah, I'm ready.

[He buzzes them in and doesn't take a moment to brace himself, even though he probably should. Like jumping into a cold pool.]

[Which, wow, relevant analogy, it is freezing in here. Actually freezing.]

Jesus.

[Peter's grateful he has a jacket on, but he still wraps his arms around himself and shivers.]

The heater broke in our apartment a couple years ago, I helped my uncle patch it up. If we can get into the wiring or something, I can probably see what broke.

No offense, but it's a space boat, not a heater. Worth a try, though.

[The lights seem stable right now, but Alex isn't looking at those. He's looking at the cells. Nobody's actively complaining as far as he can see, but still.]

Problem. I have no idea where the wiring would be.

I've been told I'm pretty good at putting stuff back together.

[But he says it kind of distractedly, because he's already looking around, running his hands along the walls and trying to find something, anything that can be pried off or pulled open.]

[Alex notes this, watching Peter. This is not cars or sinks, he cannot do this thing.]

What should I be looking for?

[He doesn't stop looking, but does take a step back for a moment, scanning the walls and trying to find a sign of something.]

Any grooves, screws, secret panels, I don't know. There's got to be something, unless the controls all in the engine room.

[He steps back and scans the walls with Peter, squinting and feeling kind of stupid.]

Yeah, I got nothing.

[Peter lets out a slow breath, not really liking the way it's literally misting in front of him and finally glances over at Alex briefly.]

What should we do?

[Huffing irritably, not at Peter but at the entire situation, he glares at the smooth walls like they've personally insulted him. Which they basically have. He wants to be able to actually do something about this.]

[He turns and looks at the cells again, then back at the walls.]

Cold's easier than hot. We can always bring more blankets. I don't know what to do when the temperature ramps up in here again, though. Long-term . . . talk to whoever's in the engine room?

Toshiko Sato. [It's still half distracted, but he finally looks away for good and turns to Alex, wrapping his arms around himself again.]

There might be some blankets in the supply closet.

Yeah. [He goes to check and gestures for Peter to follow him. When he's close enough, Alex lowers his voice.]

Would you be willing to help transport them, if it comes to that? To somewhere else?

[Peter follows and nods immediately, expression serious, full of conviction.]

Yeah. Yeah, definitely. Where should they go?

Empty room. Guards at the door.

Sounds good. [And you are being looked at a little critically for a moment.] Are you doing okay?

I'm fine. Everybody needs to stop asking me that.

Sorry. You just, you know- [Scrambling for an explanation, plus a shrug.] Seem stressed out. Which makes sense, I mean, this is really messed up.

It's very messed up.

[He's not looking at Peter right now, just kind of. Staring at the wall.]

[And Peter is just staring at him. And frowning.]

Dude, seriously, I know we're not like, close or whatever, [So maybe this is Totally Normal (TM) Alex Summers behavior, for all he knows.] but maybe you should take a nap?

[Oh, Peter. This is about as close as Alex gets to anybody who's not named Charles Xavier.]

You sound like a mom right now. [But he's not mad, just. Yeah, he sounds tired.]

[It's been forever since he's had a friend his own age who's not Gwen okay. B(

And you're getting a sort of wry smile.] Sorry.

[Ugh. Damnit, Peter. Alex is an asshole about 40% of the time, but he knows Peter worries and he doesn't actually want him to.]

[He sighs and shrugs tightly.]

I don't like enclosed spaces. [Pause. Pause.] Or cells.

[He wonders why cells specifically, but he's not socially confused enough to actually just ask about that.]

So, this whole thing must be pretty rough for you. [Like. The Barge in general. Jesus, Alex. :|]

[He shrugs. Stoically. Single manly tear etc etc (only not really) (yet).]

I figure, better for me to do it than somebody who has no idea what it's like.
