I guess that answers any questions about whether or not I wanted to be an extra in Master and Commander. [Although, really.] That said, it definitely could have been worse. I mean, can you imagine if we ever got stuck somewhere like that, permanently? I'd take running water and modern medicine over pirates any day, I don't care how cool Jack Sparrow makes it look.

Alright, so, who here hasn't seen Star Wars? Kinda sounds like we need to have some kind of group movie night when people are taking a break from being all obsessive about port.

[At that height, there is no way he couldn't look gangly and awkward. Bond rounds the corner in sweats, and when he's close enough, he nods to Peter before heading in.]

Can you turn it off? [He gestures vaguely at Pete, as if that can encompass the superpowers thing.]

Uh, no. [At least, he's pretty sure he can't. His reflexes have just... been incredible ever since he got bitten, the only thing he can really switch off is the wall climbing thing.] I told you, instant "I know Kung Fu" moment. It's been like that ever since.

And what if that goes away? People have been without their [he waves a hand almost dismissively] super powers in port before. What happens when you have you're "I don't know Kung Fu" moment?

[It's not something he's spent a lot of time thinking about before, and frankly, it's kind of scary.]

I don't know. Hope you get stuck with me and can help take them out? [It's a joke, he doesn't expect you to fight his fights for him.]

[That's fine. Fear is a good motivator; James knows that very well.]

Cute. [But he doesn't sound very amused.] But better if you knew what the hell you were doing. Ever heard of Systema?

It's not easy, but you'd probably be bored with easy. [And so would James, really, he's already teaching Cassel the really basic shit.] It's largely open handed, focuses on elbows and knees. Taking down an opponent and making sure they don't get back up.

[Peter nods quickly, interested, but not sure how much good this is going to do if he still has his enhanced reflexes and the precognition.]

Right. So, how do we start?

I haven't seen you fight yet. [And he doesn't think Pete needs more a warning at that, so he strikes low, at his solar plexus, lifting a leg at the same time to bring down on Peter's shin.]

[He's gotten a little more used to the whole acting instinctively when attacked thing, but it's been a while since he's actually had to use it, so after he grabs Bond's arm, sidesteps the kick to his shin, and throws the older man to the ground all within a few seconds without hardly any effort expended.

Whoops.]

Oh God, I'm sorry, are you okay?

[He's dandy, once the air creeps back into his lungs. Forcing himself to take a sharp, slightly painful breath, he rolls back to his feet, giving Peter a once over instinctively, looking for gaps, open spots, and he's nothing but vulnerability - except for how he isn't.]

Fine, [he says dryly, and rolls his shoulder.] We'll be better off working with punching bags.

Right. Sure. [He's still clearly feeling guilty and awkward, because he really hadn't meant to go that far.] I mean, fair warning, I might break those too, but. It's easier when it's not really taking a swing at me?

[He fidgets, trying to figure out how to explain, because he feels like he owes Bond that much.] I don't know. I can just kind of... tell when something's going to happen right before it does.

[He cocks his head in a sort of shrug, heading fro the man shaped punching dummies.] Most good fighters can do that. [But he knows Pete is doing more than reading muscle tension.]

If all that comes of this is learning how to control yourself, then it won't be a complete waste of time.

I know how to control myself. [He just means he's definitely capable of trashing this place if he wanted to. B(]

Oh, is that why I wound up on the floor just now? [He is skeptical of superpowers and ALWAYS WILL BE because why is this shit real, damn it.]

You ended up on the floor because you tried to go for the solar plexus.

[Well he doesn't know that okay] And if a ten year old goes for the solar plexus, will he end up on the floor too?

And how can you be sure?

You can usually tell.

Not the sure I meant. You're acting on reflex, and your reflexes will protect you from a non-threat as well as they will a threat.

And that's a bad thing?

Look, I don't know how to explain it, I can just- tell when something's going to hurt me or just, you know, fall off a shelf or whatever. I mean, I didn't flip you on the ground when you tried to grab me back when we first got assigned, right? And that was when I was pretty beat up.
